The Apollo Project will be hosting an exciting community event to celebrate the vital role of the health and social care sector within our community, held in honour of NHS Celebration Day. The Health and Social Care Event will mark NHS Day this year on the 14th of May 2025 at The Place, East Coast College’s brand-new University Centre in the heart of Great Yarmouth.
The event is being hosted by the regional Apollo project, of which East Coast College is the strategic lead, alongside Centre of Excellence for Health Apprenticeships, hosted by the University of Suffolk on behalf of NHS England.
The event is open to everyone and welcomes members of the public to come along to meet experts in their Living Library, giving them the opportunity to talk to Health Professionals about their roles. From Pharmacists to Occupational Health Therapists, students can find out what it is like working in the sector in areas such as a mortuary to domiciliary care and social care. There will be over 20 experts in attendance who will share their career journeys with students.
The public can also visit the wellbeing and community stands to see what is available, from volunteering to financial concerns, as well as a whole host of interactive, family-friendly activities promoting healthy living and have-a-go activities designed to inspire movement, creativity, and wellbeing. Apollo will also be hosting workshops, guest speakers and interactive taster sessions during the event whilst showcasing the brand-new facilities on offer.
Rachel Bunn, Skills and Innovation Director at East Coast College said: “This event will enable residents to explore careers within the Health and Social Care sector and understand possible pathways to gaining a valuable career.”
The University of Suffolk will also be available, giving demonstrations in their brand-new immersive health suite and will have people on hand to discuss any courses that people may be interested in.
Jo Divers, Associate Dean for Learning, Teaching and Student Experience for the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Public Health at the University of Suffolk said: “The Place University Centre is going to provide the local community with exciting opportunities to explore career pathways in the health and social care sector and we look forward to welcoming people of all ages to find out more at our NHS event.”
The event will be open until 6pm for anyone interested in visiting to see what adult education courses are available.
